Organization-Wide Defaults — Salesforce Administrator Practice Questions
Organization-wide defaults (OWD) define the baseline level of access that all users have to records they do not own, and serve as the foundation of Salesforce's sharing model. Administrators set OWD to Private, Public Read Only, or Public Read/Write for each object, and this baseline cannot be loosened by role hierarchies or sharing rules, only tightened. On the Salesforce Administrator exam, OWD questions test whether a candidate understands that you restrict access at the OWD level first and then open it up selectively, never the reverse.
