Process Groups — PMI CAPM Practice Questions
Process groups are the five groupings of project management processes defined by PMI: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing. The CAPM exam maps each of the 49 processes from the PMBOK Guide to one process group and one knowledge area, and candidates are expected to know these mappings. Process groups are not project phases; they can overlap and repeat across a project or phase, and Monitoring and Controlling runs concurrently with all other groups. Understanding process groups helps candidates determine which activities are appropriate at different points in a project and how information flows between processes.
