Dora Process — Cisco CCNA (200-301) Practice Questions
The DORA process describes the four-message exchange a client uses to obtain an IP address from a DHCP server: Discover, Offer, Request, and Acknowledge. In the Discover phase the client broadcasts a request for any available DHCP server; in the Offer phase a server responds with an available address; the client then broadcasts a Request to accept the offer; and the server finalizes the lease with an Acknowledge. The CCNA exam expects you to know each message type, its direction (broadcast or unicast), and what information each message carries. Misidentifying the order or broadcast behavior of these messages is a common source of errors on exam questions.
